“Confess ‘Jesus Is Lord,’ And Believe He Was Raised And Be Saved!”
“Jesus is Lord” is one of those early confessions of faith in New Testament times. But like any other words spoken by humans, such a confession may just be mere words without any inner conviction.
Jesus was an ordinary name given to an ordinary person who lived an ordinary life and did extraordinary things. When he died and was raised to life he became the Christ. Before now his identity as Christ had to be kept secret. He asked to know from his disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.” At this response, “Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.” He told them that to attain Christship he must pass through many sufferings, rejection and murder, “and on the third day be raised to life” (Lk. 9:18-26).
As I was reflecting on this just now the inspiration dawned on me that we often limit ourselves to a Jesus who is not a Christ when we pray “In Jesus’ (Mighty) Name” only!
Paul writes “that if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord, ‘ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” In your heart you believe his death and resurrection and are justified, then you confess him with your mouth and you are saved! When you trust in the Lord you “will never be put to shame.” Not at all!
The good news of salvation is that it is open to everybody who hears the word and responds just as Joel had said, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved”(2:32). Yes, God “richly blesses all who call on him.”
Since “faith comes from hearing the message and the message is heard through the word of Christ,” it is incumbent upon Christians to be happy messengers of this goodnews to everybody(Rom. 10:9-17).
You must not necessarily carry a Bible and go preach to people, what you do and say preaches more than any sermon!
Always have it in mind that you may be the only Bible that those around you are reading!
My friend, “Jesus is Lord” should be a complement of the “believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead!”
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ I believe you were raised from the dead for my salvation. Holy Spirit enable me that in my words and deeds I should be a happy herald of the good news to others! Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
