“The Lord Has Heard Your Cry And Seen Your Tears!”
Hannah was barren for many years. She was mocked by her mate, scorned and derided by society. She became miserable and desperate. One time in the house of God she poured out her sorrows to the Lord. In tears she asked God for a son and promised to dedicate that son to the service of God.
God heard her and gave her a son she named Samuel. When she weaned Samuel she brought him to the house of God and dedicated him to God’s service just as she had promised.
On that day she expressed herself to God in prayer. A prayer that was to be paraphrased in later days by Mary, the mother of Jesus. Mary was another woman who also faced the derision and ridicule of society just like Hannah.
In these two women God demonstrated to the world that “it is not always as it seems!” Many of us today – whether men or women – can clearly identify with Hannah that God’s love and mercy does not discriminate. He opens to those who knock, he provides to those who seek and he gives to those who asks.
Yet when God has responded to us and lift us up, we should not forget what we were before. Those he has blessed should not talk so proudly or speak with such arrogance, “For the Lord is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.”
God has the power of life and death. “He brings down to the grave and raises up.” He is the same one who sends “poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honour.”
My friend, whatever your situation is today, wait on the Lord with trust and patience! Your tears of sorrow shall become tears of joy! But do not forget to fulfil the pledge you made to God when you were desperately in need of something!
Prayer: “There is none holy as you Lord, there is no-one beside you, there is no Rock like you our God”(I Sam.2:1-8a). Thank you Lord for being impartial in your works of grace. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
