“Through The Love Of God Our Saviour, All Will Be Well!”
I still remember a cartoon on the front page of the Herald newspaper when a Prime Minister launched a fight against corruption. The cartoonist showed a big tree called corruption. There was a thick rope tied to it and the PM was pulling the tree towards his direction. The tree was already bending towards him. Ironically on the opposite side of the tree was the appointee shouting something like, “Please stop! You will pull down the system!”
The Lord says, “Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture…Because you have scattered my flock and driven them away…”
It is as if prophet Jeremiah had our context in mind when he penned these words. Poor leadership in all walks of life in our country has dispersed our peoples to many foreign lands subjecting them to all kinds of miseries and hardships. Meanwhile leaders are living opulent and ostentatious lifestyles!
Nevertheless, the story is not as bad. There is hope of a brighter future! The Lord continues with assurance to the scattered sheep, “I myself will gather the remnant of my flock…and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number. I will place shepherds over them who will tend them, and they will no longer be afraid or terrified…”(Jer.23:1-4).
Yes, there is hope! The song writer says, “though we pass through tribulations…We expect a bright tomorrow…All must be well!”
God has not given up on us. Do not gloat over the glories of the bad shepherds, for God says, “I will bestow punishment on you for the evil you have done.” Every action has a reaction.
Be a good shepherd in the manner of Jesus Christ the Chief shepherd! And if you are among the poor scattered sheep, cheer up becsuse your day of restoration is at hand!
Prayer: Thank you Lord for the blessed assurance that no matter how bleak the present maybe, all will be well in the end. Amen!
Welcome back to another working week! Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
