“Christ Is Your Example, Follow In His Steps!”
Somebody told me the other day, “What stuff are you made of? I’m tired of the way some colleagues are mocking and outrightly insulting you.” My response was simple, “I’ve not seen the insults grow on my body, although one time I had to shed tears during a meeting.”
The Moderator Emeritus, Very Rev. Dr. Asana Festus left these words that remain with me and will forever remain. He said he overcame his adversaries not by giving any blow in return but by simply tiring them out as he dodged their punches.
He equally complemented his words with actions of humility! That’s how it’s supposed to be, and that’s why it doesn’t bother me when insults are hurled at me. God did not call me into ministry to be honoured by men, he called me to serve humanity in their point of greatest need, which is to help them daily to know Christ, remain in him and follow him in word and deed.
Peter reminds us all, “…Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps. ‘He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.’ When they hurled insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body…so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”
We were like sheep going astray, but because Christ bore all the shame, humiliation and death, we have returned to him the Sherpherd and Overseer of our souls!(I Pt. 2:21b-25).
My friend, if an innocent man went through all these for our redemption, why would we who are full of sin think that we deserve the best treatments!
Christ has left you an example, follow in his steps! Bear the shame and insults if it will bring more souls to salvation!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ you received insults and all kinds of humiliation for my redemption. Enable me follow in your steps. Bring me back to you and be the Shepherd and Overseer of my soul. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
