“Be An Example To The Flock Under Your Care!”
Reorganization is going on in my church beginning at the grassroots with the election of elders and group leaders and this will continue to the election of the two top officers of the Church. The stories we hear about the intrigues and how by hook or by crook some people want to be elected or re-elected.
Bribery and intimidation including lies-telling and manipulations as are being told even by clergy who have been approached with bribes or with threats of transfers are frightening.
Sometimes we wonder whether we can still muster the courage to claim to be the “moral conscience of society” since those who go to equity must have clean hands!
This week our teachings have been about what leadership should be both in the sacred and the secular, but more in the church of God.
Rounding up our teachings today, we read from Peter who was an apostle of the Lord and who knew what he was writing about. He wrote: “To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow-elder…: ‘Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away”(I Pt. 5:1-4).
My friend whether in the home, workplace or church, what kind of leader are you? What motivates you to lead or want to lead?
Be an example to the flock, because the baby monkey jumps and lands where it sees the mother lands!
Prayer: Lord give me the humility to be an example to the flock under my care. Amen!
