“Do Not let Your Hearts Be Troubled; Trust In God!”
Everywhere you go you see young ladies wearing wedding rings. When asked where their husbands are they tell you they are abroad.
The bushfaller man goes ahead and after he has prepared the place he comes home and get the spouse and children. The reverse is true if it is the woman who first fell bush.
We all know the pain and sorrow in parting. In the same way when Jesus was about to leave this world, he comforted his disciples, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust in me also…I am going there to prepare a place for you…I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am…”
Unfortunately those who had walked with him during his ministry were still ignorant of where he was going . Thomas expressed this when he said, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
It was a kind of stupid question because whoever has fallen bush for the first time, those who bid farewell never knew the whereabouts of the place nor the route.
So Jesus told them, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me…”
That is why when an old politician once said his political party was “the way and the truth and the life,” other Christians who are steeped in scriptures considered it an abomination.
Jesus’ response to Thomas was still not satisfactory, so Peter said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”(Jn, 14:1-11).
With the present times we are living in, we often ask like the people of old, “Lord where are you?” “Lord are you still on the throne?” “Does God even exist?” “Does he even care?” “Is God hearing our prayers? If he does, why is he not answering us?” Etc, etc.
These questions should not bother us. Jesus foresaw all these things that is why he says for now, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust in me also…”
“The Lord is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you…” as long as you “keep his decrees and commands…It may go well with you and your children after you…”(Dt. 4:25-40).
My friend, do not be troubled, trust in God and live in awe of him! It shall be well!
Prayer: Father God I trust in you and your Son becsuse I have a better home in view. Amen!
Have a happy and blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
