“Be Responsive To The Call!”
When God called Abram he went without hesitation. God’s call is a higher calling and when accepted with faith comes with multiple promises. Abram had a specific destination – even if he did not know its specific location. God said, “Leave…and go to the land I will show you.”
God does not call us to nothingness or emptiness. He calls us to a specific destination, accompanied by a sevenfold promise.
If Abram is our model of faith, then we should be confident that when we respond to God’s call, his promises will accompany us.
“I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”(Gen.12:1-4a).
It’s such a juicy offer that only fools can turn down! It reminds us that there is no permanence here; except that which God has designated. The permanence designated by God was fulfilled to Abram through the last promise: “…all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
By that fulfilment Abram’s blessings have become ours by faith. Jesus Christ the Saviour of all humanity is the seed of Abram through whom all peoples are now blessed.
Through faith in Christ we have become Abram’s heirs by adoption. By faith, if we must follow Christ, then like Abram of old we must be ready “to give up everything” (Lk.14:25-33)
Yes my friend, there should be no regret breaking the egg, since you will eat omelette out of it. The higher call is abandoning all that entangles us and bars us from salvation. It is not leaving everything to nothing; it is leaving better grades for excellent grades.
It is as Paul has stated, “But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ…I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection…and so, somehow to attain to the resurrection from the dead”(Phi.3:7-11).
We must note that we are not all going to be like Abram. Some will be called and some will be blessed through those who have been called.
Dear friend, always be alert so that you do not miss out on the silent voice of God when he calls. And when he calls, do not hesitate. Leave what you have and go for what he has promised.
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit guide me to the place where the Father has destined and let me be a channel of blessing to others.
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
