“Your Labour Is Not In Vain!”
Few weeks ago we laid to rest a colleague at Alabukam, Mezam. He was buried beside his dear wife who had passed on some few years back. This colleague was of Kom origin, he was born in Befang, Wum. They got married in Bui. He had planned to retire in Bawock, Bali. Can we say this is an example of one who had left everything to follow Jesus Christ? I will say, “Yes!”
At the Prescraft Centre in Bali there is a graveyard of some Basel missionaries who died in this land. Go to Dikoume Balue and you’ll see the graveyard of missionaries who died far away from home.
All across the continent you will find such graveyards of missionaries who died and were buried far away from home. Did any of those deceased missionaries at any time ask Jesus like Peter did, “We have left everything to follow you. What then will there be for us?”
They didn’t ask. They already knew the answer. They knew that they “will inherit eternal life”(Mt.19:27-30). All those who have died in foreign lands for the sake of the gospel were not selfish. They carried the gospel to other lands so as to fulfil the Great Commission. They did not want to be saved alone.
They realised that all God’s children everywhere stand in need of salvation. May their souls rest in perfect peace.”
We may not all go to die in foreign lands to prove that we have left everything to follow Christ. However, we should serve the cause of the gospel sacrificially without counting the cost.
Yes my friend, the Lord needs your time, money and talent for service in his vineyard! He wants the totality of your being. Whatever you sacrifice for the Lord in service to others has a reward of eternal life and a reign with Christ. Therefore in whatever you do for the welfare of others, “work heartily as serving the Lord and not men.” Your labour will not go in vain.
Prayer: Holy Spirit enable me to follow the Lord Jesus Christ through service to others without counting the cost. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
