“Nowhere Else To Go Except Jesus Christ!”
Two brothers who were living together in a closely knit community decided to hold a feast for their friends. When the table was set, the elder brother asked the junior to go and invite their friends. The brother went out and shouted at the top of his voice, “Help!Help! Help! Our house is on fire! Please come and help!
Some people heard and rushed to help. He took them inside the house. The elder brother was irritated by his action. The elder brother asked, Why did you do this? Where are our friends? The younger brother told him, “Those who heard my cry for help and came are our friends. The so-called friends you are talking about did not care if fire consumed us or not.”
True friends are those who stand by you when things are rough with you. True friends are those who see in you what others do not see. True friends believe in you when others doubt you. True friends accept you as you are. True friends are not fairweather people. True friends are there in bad weather as well.
Life is bound to take you to that crisis point where those who are flocking around you begin to fall away. These are the bread and butter (fish) friends!
Jesus came to that crisis point when many of his disciples could no longer contain his hard teachings. Many of them “turned back and no longer followed him.” Jesus asked the Twelve, “You do not want to leave too, do you?” It was a trying moment, not only for theTwelve but to Jesus as well!
This question is directed to us here and now: “You do not want to leave too, do you?” I pray that Peter’s response is for you too as it is for me. “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God “(Jn.6:66-69).
Flesh and blood could not have inspired Peter to give this kind of answer to Jesus. The answer came from the Holy Spirit; even as Jesus said earlier on that, “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life”(Jn.6:63). The words of eternal life are found nowhere else than in Jesus Christ.
My friend, you may be facing a crisis and you find it difficult to believe that Jesus is the answer. Please relax; Jesus is the answer! Go nowhere else; cling on to Jesus for he alone has the words of eternal life.
Weekend prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I remain in you. You have the words of eternal life. I believe and know you are the Holy One of God. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
