Cultivate An Attitude As That Of Christ Jesus!”(Phi.2:5-11).
Today is Palm Sunday which marks the beginning of Holy Week.
Holy Week will be characterized by daily Passion Services during which we recount the stories of his last days of our Lord in Jerusalem leading to his death.
But then, the sad note on which the story ends is temporary! It is like sorrow tarrying for the night, but joy coming in the morning.
Yes; the sorrow of death on Friday fades away as our hearts are filled with the joy of Easter when up from the grave Christ arose!
You see why instead of calling the day of his death Black Friday, it is called, Good Friday! It was a good day because neither death nor the grave could hold him captive.
This was possible because Jesus the Son of God humbly submitted himself to the will of his Father.
The saga of the Holy Week culminating in Easter is beautifully wrapped up in this ancient Christian hymn: “Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death – even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
And what is the lesson for us? The Lord Jesus Christ himself inculcates in us that “a servant is never above his master. He wants us to follow his example of humble submission in obedience to God’s will. We do this by working heartily as serving God and not human beings. Even though we do this through service to humanity.
Dear friend, the ancient Christian hymn is preceded by this admonition: Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:” The lesson of the Holy Week for you and I should be to have Jesus’ attitude of self-sacrificing humility and love for others.
Palm Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit help me to cultivate an attitude the same as that of Christ Jesus. Amen!
Have a blessed Palm Sunday! Peace be with you!
