“Another Kind Of Body…!”(I Cor.15:35-49).
Before Adam was expelled from the garden of Eden God told him, “…By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return”(Gen.3:19).
That is why when a casket is lowered into the grave, the minister pours ground on it saying, “You are dust, and unto dust you shall return.” This is to say this physical body is perishable. It is subject to decay.
Even with this knowledge, “someone may ask, ‘How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?'”
Isn’t it foolish to ask those questions? If you’ve ever planted any kind of seed, you would have noticed that as it germinates and starts sprouting, the seed itself rots away. So it is not the seed that was sown which grows, but the kind of body that God gives to it.
“So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonour, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.”
There is a natural body in the manner of Adam the first man who became a living being. The last Adam who is Christ is a life-giving spirit.
Here on earth we have borne the likeness of the earthly man – Adam. At the resurrection we shall bear the likeness of the man from heaven – Christ the Risen Lord.
My friend, just as the foetus in the womb never frets itself of what it shall become in this world, so too it is needless to bother ourselves of what we shall become when the Lord Jesus Christ comes in his glory! All that is certain is that when the time comes God will give us the body that he has determined beforehand. What is important is that the dead shall arise and live eternally with Christ in his kingdom. Will you be there with him? The time to earn a place there is now and the place to earn it is here. So work for it by suiting your words and deeds to your belief!
Weekend prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for being the sacrifice for our eternity. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
