“The Blood Of The New Covenant!”(Mt.26:26-30).
We can enjoy newness in our homes without moving house. All we have to do is rearrange the furniture.
The only new thing that the incarnation introduced in the world is the Messiah. Otherwise everything that the Messiah used in his ministry was already there in the Jewish culture and religion.
Christ filled what was there with new content.
The Lord’s Supper was not a new introduction; it was a transformation of the Jewish Passover meal. Jesus filled the Passover meal with new content.
Today’s text opens with, “While they were eating….” What they were eating was the Passover meal in commemoration of how the angel of death passed over the houses of the Jews on that night in which he went on rampage killing all firstborn males of the Egyptians.
On this special day, “while they were eating” the Passover meal, “Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take and eat; this is my body.'”
“Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins…'”
Few lessons to learn:

  1. Always give thanks for the food and drinks before consumption.
  2. The blood of Christ is the seal of a new Covenant.
  3. The blood of Christ is for the forgiveness of sins.
  4. Sing a song of thanksgiving after each meal.
  5. Just as Christ reformed the Passover meal and made it the Lord’s Supper, we his disciples should constantly be in the process of reforming.
  6. Lastly, each participation in the Lord’s Supper is a reminder that we are sinners whose sins are forgiven.
Therefore, “Come now with faith and repentant hearts to the table which the LORD has prepared for you!”
Prayer of the day and week: Lord Jesus Christ thank you for the blood that you poured for my sins. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed working day and week! Peace be with you!
