“The Bread Of Life II!”(Jn.6:47-51).
“I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life. Your forefathers ate the manna in the desert, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which a man may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
Adam was banished from Eden because, as God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”(Gen.3:22-23).
Through the banishment, human beings lost the chance of immortality. They also lost the chance of daily presence with God. Paradise was lost, and there was no longer opportunity for any human “to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.”
However, the compassionate God has not allowed his anger to have his better side. Jesus comes as “the living bread from heaven.” “The breaf of life.”
If Adam had reached out his hand, took and ate from the tree of life, we would have lived forever in paradise where God only made occasional visits. But now we have Jesus, the bread of life, the living bread from heaven. When we eat of him, heaven opens her doors of everlasting life to us where we live in God’s presence.
Dear friend, the manna we crave for in this world is nameless. And if it is nameless, it is worthless because it is perishable. In the morning the people saw thin flakes like frost on the desert floor, and they said to each other, “What is it?” “Manna” is the Hebrew word for “What is it?” That’s why I say it is nameless.
When we go for things, we want to be sure of the brand name to determine its quality. The name Jesus has become a brand name sans rival! He states with confidence that his flesh is the bread, which he will give for the life of the world!
You may not want it now; don’t be irritated that he is being forced on you. He is an offer to those who accept and believe him. But he remains available to all.
Weekend prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for being our bread of life. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
