“Christ The Life Giver!”(Jn.5:19-24)[28/11/24].
I am reminded this morning of Gulliver’s travels; particularly his journey to Liliput. Johnathan Swift makes a satire on the stupidity of so-called wise people. The Lilliputians crack their eggs at the smallest end, whole the Blefuscudians crack theirs at the larger end. This became a cause of tension that led to a long standing war between the two countries. Imagine a little disagreement over a reference in their common Holy scripture about the proper way of cracking an egg! This is the same kind of satarization which John G. Saxe presents in his poem, “The Blind Men and the Elephant.” In the last stanza he concludes, “So, oft in Theological wars the disputants, I ween, Rail on in utter ignorance of what each other mean, And prate about an Elephant Not one of them has seen!”
Imagine all the arguments that go on and on among the churches concerning proper mode of baptism, where and when to baptize. The argument about tithes, the Trinity as Godhead, etc!
So it was that the Jews persecuted Jesus for helping people on the Sabbath and they even tried harder to kill him for blasphemy because he called God his Father! How does any of these things affect anyone’s standing with God? Whether Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God or not has nothing to do with faith. God is everywhere and his right hand cannot be determined physically!
It is like two friends walking along a bush path. They see a viper. Fortunately they see a stick they could pick to kill the snake. They both dive for the stick and grab it, one at each end of the stick. They remain arguing about who first saw the stick. While arguing over the stick, the snake slides away. Days later the snake kills somebody. We cannot remain arguing over the stick and let the snake to slide by.
I’m not going to argue what Jesus says. We may fail some questions during the examination, but still pass the examination with flying colors!
Jesus says, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can only do what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it…”
To us dear friend, he says, “I tell you the truth, whoever hears my my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.”
Do you believe?
Prayer: Holy Spirit give us believing hearts so that we believe the words of the Savior and cross from death to life. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
