“Pay Attention To The Testimony Of The Glory Of Christ!”(II Pt.1:16-21).
The importance of eyewitness to the Jews can no longer be gainsaid. At least two witnesses were necessary to authenticate a claim. When Jesus was arrested, two persons were bribed to testify against him, but their stories did not corroborate each other.
Peter reminds us as to the reason why we must believe in Jesus as the Son of God.
They saw what they saw and heard what they heard at the Transfiguration when the glory of Christ was revealed.Christ “received glory and honor from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.’ We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.” This story is narrated by the synoptic gospels; which is another justification for its authenticity and also an indication of the importance of the story to the New Testament Church.
Moreover, Peter draws our attention to prophetic utterances and its authenticity, which should for no reason be doubted.
The prophetic message is “something completely reliable,” and it is to our advantage and benefit “to pay attention to it, as a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.”
Those who come with cleverly devised stories may want to downplay some prophetic messages. On the contrary, Peter says we “must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. “
Dear friend, take note that the stories about the coming of our Lord in power are not cleverly devised stories. The glory of Christ is real. The disciples saw it and heard the voice of the Father; and the prophets were inspired by the Holy Spirit to prophesy about it. The message is completely reliable, and we should do well to pay attention to it. At the last day, it will enable us to share in the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ through our glorious bodies.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, help us daily to pay attention to the testimony of the apostles and the Spirit inspired prophetic messages of the prophets. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
