“Thank God For Using The Person You Know Well!”(Mk.6:1-6).
Jesus went to his hometown, and on the Sabbath, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many heard him and were amazed.
They wondered where he gained such wisdom, to the extent of performing miracles. They asked, “Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?”
With these questions, “They took offense at him.” Jesus was amazed at their lack of faith. He went around teaching from village to village. But before leaving, he told them, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives and his own house is a prophet without honor.”
It is said that “familiarity breeds contempt.” To be sure of what this means, I checked it up and this is what the dictionary says: “extensive knowledge of or close association with someone or something leads to a loss of respect for them or it.”
This is exactly what happened to Jesus in his hometown. This is what those of us ministering in our hometowns experience in high degree.
Your family people, your quarter people, your village people always think that they know you inside out. Their myopic understanding of such entitlement is because they know your pedigree. But that’s not what knowing somebody actually means.
Those who claim to know you do not know when you are in conversation with God and how God communicates his words to you.
My friend, if you are amazed by the wisdom of a messenger of the gospel, and if the things he does reveal the glory of God, do not ignore them merely because you think you know him.
Great opportunities are missed because we take some things for granted. The word, by whoever God sends, is for salvation, and we ignore it at our own expense.
Some of us have heard the worst of insults because people judge us by outward appearance and draw faulty conclusions; just because they think they know to the fullest who we truly are!
Even if you know us that deep, the inspiration does not belong to us. God speaks through us when he wants to, and sometimes we ourselves are surprised that we had such deep knowledge and wisdom in the things of God.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to keep my familiarity to myself and receive your word of life through my brother, your servant. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
