“Building Up ToThe Climax!”(Lk.22:35 -53).
It can be argued that an “Unfolding story” is a kind of journalese trying to keep safe while details of the story begin to make sense – especially if there was nothing spectacular under a “Breaking news!”
Yesterday we pointed out in our caption that the countdown in the murder plot of Jesus has just begun.
Today we reflect on “Building up to the climax!” Climax is a highpoint wherefrom diminishing returns begin to set in.
The story unfolds ad the climax builds up with the thickening plot to kill Jesus. Nevertheless, in the midst of the thickening plot, Jesus has time to prepare his disciples for the harsh times ahead of them when they will be sheep without shepherd. In a figure of speech he warned them of the hard times they’ll face without his presence. They should brace themselves in readiness to face such harsh realities; not with arms, but with prayer.
He also advised them on the importance of prayer, which cannot be gainsaid is a panacea against temptation.
The highpoint of this part of the passion narrative is how Jesus’ weakness is revealed through his prayer to the Father. “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” It is a weakness of his humanity, that ge surrenders himself to the will of the Father. At the same time it demonstrates his divinity – a proof of which “an angel appeared to him and strengthened him.”
It doesn’t surprise us anymore that Judas, one of the Twelve was the one leading the crowd. “He approached Jesus to kiss him, but Jesus asked him, ‘Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?'” My friend, never loose your guard when a close aide offers to kiss you in public!
Death is inevitable – even to the Son of God! God does protect us, but when the time comes he allows the adversary to have his way. In regards to this, Jesus told the crowd, “But this is your hour – when darkness reigns.
Glory be to God that no matter how thick the darkness, there is always a new dawn with beautiful promises. Any plot against Jesus was a designed pathway to the resurrection! Therefore, stand on the promises of God which cannot fail! The night may be long and saddled with tears, but joy comes in the morning.
Prayer: Father Almighty, in my trying moments, let your will, not mine be done. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
