“Faith Rolls The Mountain!”(I Kgs 17:17-24).
“Some time later the son of the woman who owned the house became ill. He grew worse and worse, and finally stopped breathing. She said to Elijah, ‘What do you have against me, man of God? Did you come to remind me of my sin and kill my son?” ‘Give me your son,’ Elijah replied. He took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his bed. Then he cried out to the Lord, ‘Lord my God, have you brought tragedy even on this widow I am staying with, by causing her son to die?’ Then he stretched himself out on the boy three times and cried out to the Lord, ‘Lord my God, let this boy’s life return to him!’ The Lord heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived. Elijah picked up the child and carried him down from the room into the house. He gave him to his mother and said, ‘Look, your son is alive!’ Then the woman said to Elijah, ‘Now I know that you are a man of God and that the word of the Lord from your mouth is the truth.'”
Some theologians argue that what Elijah did was resuscitation because the boy did not die. This argument is based on the reasoning that the text says he “finally stopped breathing.” It does not say he died. To stop breathing can be temporary unconsciousness, but it can also mean death. Elijah’s action of stretching himself out on the boy three times is a way by which resuscitation is done.
Besides, if Christ is the first fruits of the resurrection, then other resurrections that happened before were temporary. Christ himself resurrected some persons. All those prior resurrections were temporary as the people eventually died again.
Taking this whole chapter in its entirety, the conclusion is that when you trust God wholeheartedly, he will do whatever you ask of him – and even what you do not ask, but which is essential.
Elijah cried out to the LORD, “LORD, my God, let this boy’s life return to him!”The LORD heard Elijah’s cry, and the boy’s life returned to him, and he lived.”
Dear friend, there is an area of your life that has stopped breathing; there is that dead situation in your life which has to be resurrected or resuscitated, cry out to the LORD and he will cause life to return to that situation. There is nothing our God cannot do! With God, dry bones receive life. There is nothing impossible with God.
Prayer of the day and week: LORD Almighty, thank you for giving us new life through the risen Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
