“Be At Peace With Each Other…!”
One can imagine how many miamed people could be living in the world today if we were to consider the words of Jesus as plain language when he said, “If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life miamed than with two hands to go into hell…”
It is however true that a lot of sin would have been avoided if some of us did not cause some of the little ones to sin. To such as us, Jesus said it would be better to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around the neck. Our generation may not know the millstone because we have modern grinding machines. In olden times all grains were grinded on big special stones called millstones. The idea of tieing the millstone around one’s neck is to ensure that when thrown into the sea the one should actually sink.
Ironically as we said yesterday, Jesus is very tolerant and always gives us another chance. What is important is to “be at peace with each other.”
Peace with each other is not just the absence of strife. Peace is the full implementation of justice. The peaceful man cannot live in peace if his troublesome neighbour does not so desire. Last evening I shouted until all my children came into our room. They were scared for they have never heard me shout that way. They taught we were quarreling, but when they came in they saw their mother trying to calm me down. I was so angry because I was caught in a crossfire in Kosala on Friday. That same night somebody sent me an SMS saying they were coming to kill me and cut the heads of my wife and child because I refused to give them support. Then last evening there was a ring and when I picked I started receiving threats to my life again. That is why I started shouting. Where is the peace and tranquillity we use to know?
My friend, being in peace with each other is first and foremost to ensure that justice, truth and righteousness reigns supreme!
Because “Peace without justice is like a crumbling city wall!”
Prayer: Lord teach me to ensure justice so that peace may reign. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
