“Set Free To Benefit Holiness Leading To Eternal Life!”
I cherish what a teetotaler told a friend who was once an alcoholic: “Now you are happy that you no longer drink, why did you even start in the first place? What did you gain during those days of drinking?”
This friend wasn’t saying anything new. Paul asked, “What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of?” In response he writes, “Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord “(Rom.6:20-23).
Our struggle to free ourselves from sin can only be won by fighting and resisting the temptations and entanglements of freewill. Freewill gives us the right to choose, but we must know that choices have consequences! The choice of sin leads to death, but its highway is so wide and alluring that we easily go for it.
On the other hand becoming a slave to God offers “the gift of God which is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord!” This road is a rocky and crooked pathway that is often despised! To abide on this path we must turn our eyes from looking at vanities!
Prayer: Holy Spirit strengthen me to remain in God’s grace so as to benefit his gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
