“A New Name From LORD!”(Is.62:1-5).
We are often advised to be prudent in the way we intervene in marital conflicts. When a couple are having some crises, especially when they separate, do not quickly take sides in supporting and telling one of them, “I knew that woman was not fit for you,” or, “I was just wondering what you actually saw in that man,” etc.!
When they come back together, they will now use what you said, against you, as a leverage to solidify their union. They will mock you that it is people like you who try to scatter marriages.
Israel was once the beloved bride of the LORD. They took the LORD’S love for granted. They became idolaters and angered the LORD to the extent that he caused them to be overpowered and carried into exile.
These beloved of the LORD became an object of mockery to the rest of the nations. After having pointed out the reason for their exile, the LORD gave them encouraging messages of hope through the prophet Isaiah. One such message of restoration was that her salvation will shine like a blazing torch and the nations will see her righteousness and she “will be called by a new name.”
As an object of derision she was now called Deserted and her land called Desolate. The LORD will give them a new name, Hephzibah (my delight is in her), and their land Beulah(married). And the LORD will rejoice over them as a bridegroom rejoices over his bride.
My friend, it is never too late to turn back to the LORD so that he can rewrite your story and give you a new name. God’s promise of grace is fulfilled in Christ through whom we now have a new name. Let us hold on to that faith and like Mary told the servants at the wedding feast in Cana, Let us do whatever the Lord Jesus Christ tell us to do and he will turn our water into wine(Jn.2:1-11).
Wise Peter means the same when he writes,, “make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ “(II Pt.1:5-8).
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit help us to be worthy of our new name from the LORD and to keep it to the finish. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
