“A Work In Progress…!”(I Pt. 2:1-10).
“Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like new born babies crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
Take it that this is an examination. Answer sincerely this question based on the quotation above:
“Now that you have tasted that the Lord is good, what significant change has occurred with you which those around you can attest to?”
(We are not asking you to answer in the comment section. Answer it for your private benefit).
Your answer will help you weed out the particles of malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and every kind of slander which you know by yourself that they are still part of you.
Christ is the living Stone – rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him.” Once we have come to him we too become like living stones, “being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.”
Two phrases catches my attention for our reflection.
Firstly, we are asked to “crave pure spiritual milk…” To crave is “to feel a powerful desire for something.” So to say, a life in Christ should constantly feel that powerful desire for spiritual milk which is a contrast to what the carnal man craves for.
The second phrase is “being built into a spiritual house…” “Being built: means “a work in progress, and not a finished work.”
We have said it many times that conversion is a process and not an event. We are a work in progress until we have attained the fullness that gives us completeness in Christ Jesus.
Christ is a precious stone to those who believe in him.
Concerning those who believe in that Precious, though rejected Stone, it is said, “…you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light…once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”
Whether we are work in progress or completed works, we have this assignment: to declare the praises of God. We should do this through words, but more through action.
Weekend prayer: Heavenly Father keep working on me until I become what you want me to become. Amen!
