“Act Justly, Love Mercy And Walk Humbly With Your God!”(Mi.6:6-8).
Building a right relationship with the LORD, and to say “I know the LORD” is to do what is right and just and defend the cause of the poor and needy(Jer.23:15-16), it is to desire mercy rather than sacrifice and burnt offerings(Ho.6:6). It is as Amos puts it, to “let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never failing stream”(1:24).
The little known prophet Micah beautifully summarizes this thus, “He has shown you O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
Obedience is what God wants from his covenant people. Mercy wells up from a humble heart because a proud and egocentric person is vengeful and has little regard for what is just.
Where nepotism, tribalism and favouritism thrives, there is no sense of acting justly. And a vengeful heart does not love mercy.
Dear friend, while it is good to bring sacrifices and offerings to the LORD, what he requires above all is that you act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with him.
Prayer: Holy Spirit help me to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with my God. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
