“Ancient Words That Save!”(Prov.20:4-17).
Our readings since Monday are drawn from the biblical books classified as “Wisdom literature.” These books include specifically Job, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes; not completely excluding Psalms and Song of Songs.
Each of these books contain ancient wisdom about the world. All these books try to teach about the good life.
However, the emphasis of the teachings is that God is the source of goodness. He abhors sin, but guides the paths of the penitent.
It is perhaps difficult to find a man who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin.” But those whose sins have been forgiven have “clean hands and a pure heart” and do not life up his soul to an idol(Ps. 24:4).
God has given us a blueprint of life; that is why Proverbs always show what he approves and what he detests.
Lazy people spend more time in slumber and when they have nothing at harvest time, they turn to accuse those who worked hard of practicing witchcraft. In fact, if you love sleep you will grow poor, but if you work hard you will have enough to spare.
God does not reward those who use differing measures. Everywhere you go in our homeland, butchers are fond of using differing measures. They manipulate the measures so as to cheat their customers.
Our markets are bargaining markets. Most times the buyers argue that the goods are not worth it, just so that they can buy cheap. And when they have bought cheaply they go home and rejoice that they hit the jackpot.
Such so-called gains are actually among the “food gained by fraud” that may tastes sweet to a man, but ends with a mouth full of gravel.
Dear friend, we should strive to be righteous and live blameless lives so that our children after us will be blessed.
Prayer: Holy Spirit order my steps in the way of the LORD. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
Rev Babila Fochang.
