“Approach The Throne Of Grace With Confidence…!”
The difference between us and Jesus as far as sin is concerned is that he “was tempted in every way, just as we are – yet without sin.” This qualified him to become a great high priest who has gone into heaven.
Jesus is a high priest who understands our weaknesses because he was tempted and he overcame!
Whichever sin it is, sin is the deliberate refusal to obey God; or you can say it is the willingness to listen to the voice of a stranger – devil!
The grace and mercy of God was made evident after the deluge. When he smelled the pleasing aroma from Noah’s burnt sacrifice, he said, “Never again will I curse the ground because of man, for every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood…”(Gen. 8:20-22).
The fullness of grace and mercy is Jesus Christ the Son of God. Hebrews is very reassuring to weak creatures like us. The writer coaxes: “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need”(4:14-16).
What does it mean to approach the throne of grace with confidence? Confidence in this context is defined as “the feeling or belief that one can have faith in or rely on someone or something.”
Who approaches the throne with confidence? A child who has been mischievous in the absence of the parents finds it hard to approach the parent. But the moment the child makes a bold resolve to approach the parent with a confessional truth, he approaches with confidence knowing that he will be set free by telling the truth and receiving pardon.
Mary McKee and the Genesis captures this very well in the second stanza of “Shattered Dreams.” “But I hope now I need my father’s mercy. I have sinned, and I know I’ve brought disgrace. I will ask him to forgive me though I’m wrong. I’ll be so glad just to look upon his face.”
Yes my friend, this is the type of confidence it takes to approach the throne of grace! Come therefore “with confidence, so that you may receive mercy and find grace to help you in your time of need!”
Prayer: Holy Spirit be my encourager to come to the throne of grace with confidence and lay my sins on Jesus. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
