“”Approach The Throne Of Grace With Faith And Be Healed!”
“The letter from James is a collection of practical instructions” with a universal tinge for God’s people wherever they may be.
The text today centres on instructions concerning trouble, happiness and sickness. The synonyms to trouble include anxiety and stress which are like mental illnesses. This is to say sickness is a kind of trouble. James downplays trouble and happiness by instructing about them just in passing.
If anyone is in trouble let the one pray. If anyone is happy the one should sing songs of praise.
However, let us concentrate on sickness because our focus this week has been on sickness and healing. James instructs that anyone who is sick should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well. If the person has sinned, his sins will be forgiven.
The interesting part often bypassed is, “confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective”(Jam.5:13-16). The question is, “have we in all honesty confessed our sins to each other before praying for each other so as to receive healing? The way we tear at each other as revenous wolves speaks for itself why our prayers are often unanswered!
Rick Warren reminds us that to the Christian the Bible must become the authoritative standard for life: the compass to rely on for direction, the counsel to listen to for making wise decisions, and the benchmark to use for evaluating everything. This means before taking any decision one must ask, “What does the Bible say?” when making decisions. This means to “resolve that when God says do something, you will trust God’s word and do it whether or not it makes sense or you feel like doing it.”
Let us all as stakeholders always follow the instructions of James and play our respective roles so as to receive holistic healing. That is the only way through which Christ can abide with us and cause the Father to answer us and heal us.
Prayer: Holy Spirit inspire me to accept the instructions of scriptures as my rule of faith. Amen!
We wish you a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
