“Avoid Hypocrisy; Do Not Set Aside The Grace Of God!”
The consequences of any action, be it negative or positive has a multiplier effect. When the action is negative, if it does not meet with a boldfaced reaction, the repercussions can become contagiouslydissastrous!
Paul writes to the Christians in Galatia, “When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong.” Before the arrival of certain men from James, Peter “used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and seperate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group.”
The multiplier effect of Peter’s action was that “other Jews joined him in his hypocrisy, so that by their hypocrisy even Barnabas was led astray.”
This was “not acting in line with the truth of the gospel.” We are not saved by a righteousness that comes through observance of the “dos and don’ts;” rather we are saved by a righteousness that comes through the death of Christ.
Paul makes a confession of faith which is what each one of us should embrace as a creed of our faith: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”(Gal.2:11-21)
My friend, Christ did not die for nothing; so stop being a hypocrite and contaminating others with the disease of hypocrisy!
Weekend prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, I cling to you by faith and I do not ignore the grace of God that has saved me through you. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
