“Be Careful You Do Not Forget The Lord Your God!”
It is easy to forget too soon where we came from and how far we have travelled to be where we are! Paul cautions us to think of what we were before God transformed us. By human standards not many were influential, not many were of noble birth. It is simply that “God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise. God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong…”(I Cor. 1:26ff).
We pray that God should change our stories for the better. But the moment he does, we forget about him and start bragging about how hard we worked; as if others who are not yet at our level are not hard workers! The short bed in the farm was not because soil was finished or that the farmer was lazy. It is simply by God’s design that some must be servants if there must be masters.
When the going is good with you, “Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees…” When your wealth has increased abundantly, God forbid that “your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God…”
My friend, you are reminded just like Israel of old, no matter how blessed and successful you are in any way, do not say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”
On the contrary, “…remember the Lord your God who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant…” just as he swore he will do(Dt. 8:11-18).
God is faithful and keeps to his promises, that’s why he expects you to keep to your own side of the bargain! Jesus Christ says, “Without me you can do nothing!” Mary McKee sings, “…My life without Christ is shattered dreams…”
This is not a call to be slotful; spending the greater part of each day praying for a breakthrough in finances! Such a life will only end you a broke, unfulfilled life and not a breakthrough!
Don’t miss out on v18 which says you should remember the Lord your God “for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” It does not say it is he who produces the wealth for you! Dependence on God and hard work equals success!
Prayer: Holy Spirit lead me so that I will not forget the Lord and boast of my strength. Lord help me to keep your commands always! Amen!
Welcome back to a new working week! Remain blessed, work hard and ask God to give you the ability to work and achieve! Peace be with you!
