“Becoming A Well-watered Garden!” (Is.58:
“…your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail…”
If a minister were to pray these words on you, you will accompany each verse with loud “Amens!”
It is the joy of any of us to know that the LORD is watching our backs and ensuring that we are more than self sufficient.
Imagine a sun-scorched land being transformed into “a well-watered garden,…a spring whose waters never fail.” Considering the importance of water to life’s sustainability, such a transformation above will be enough reason for shouts of “Amen” and loud “Hallelujahs!”
The truth is that lifting this text out of its context and proclaiming it as a blessing will not bring any blessing at all. “A text out of context is a pretext.”
The above blessing is conditional. It can become yours or mine on certain conditions.
Before and after the text are the conditions:
Before the text: “If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then…”
After the text: “…if you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day…”
My friend, the LORD constantly brings blessings to our doorsteps. But when he notices oppression, pointing fingers, malicious talk, unfair treatment of widows, orphans and the poor, injustice and greed within the premises, he walks away with what he brought to offer us.
Therefore, let us make ourselves available to receive the blessings of God by being just, fair and righteous!
Prayer: LORD make me an instrument ogjustice and love. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
