“Being Blameless And Holy At The Second Coming!”(I thes.3:11-13).
“Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus clear the way for us to come to you. May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.”
Authorship of the Thessalonian letters is attributed to Paul, but by its introduction, the letter is from Paul, Silas, and Timothy, who were Paul’s travel companions. This three verse pericope of our text is jam-packed in content.
Today’s pericope is an interlude of prayer that includes Paul’s wistful longing for the Father and Son of the Trinity to clear the way so that they can visit the Thessalonian brethren again. The prayer also wishes for the Lord to make the love of the Thessalonian brethren to increase and overflow, not only for each other, but for everyone else! This is very important for all believers. Christian demonstration of love must be without borders. Christian love goes beyond the oneness of a cashewnut shell, which, though one shell, yet compartmentalises the nuts. The cashewnuts live in one shell but are so compartmentalised that neighbors can’t see each other. It shouldn’t be so with agape love.
Lastly the prayer is a request for the Lord’s strengthening of the hearts of believers so that they “will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Fathet when our Lord Jesus Christ comes with all his holy ones.”
This last prayer point, which looks forward to the Second Coming, is an essential prayer for the Lenten season. There is no reason to observe Lent if at his second coming, the Lord Jesus Christ meets us blameful
and unholy! The prayer therefore calls us to alertness, preparedness, and joyful anticipation for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you?
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, prompt us to walk the route that keeps us blameless and holy at the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
