“Beware Of What You Keep In The Storehouse Of Your Heart!”(Mt. 12:33-37).
The story is told of a lady who threw all her garbage in the neighbour’s yard. The neighbour never complained. One day she knocked on the door of the wicked lady and offered her a basket full of fresh vegetables. The wicked lady was surprised to have such a gift because she knew how she had been throwing her garbage in the neighbour’s yard. She asked why the other woman showed her such kindness. The kind lady told her: “I used the garbage you dumped in my yard to grow these vegetables. I’ve brought some to you because in this life each person gives out only what s/he has.”
The Lord Jesus Christ says, “Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit…”
What this means is that it depends on “making the tree.” A tree can be good or bad as you make it. The difference is seen in the fruit it produces.
“…out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.”
Let me repeat this story: Back in the days when I was pastoring in Yaounde, I took up the teaching of Religious Studies in a private school. When I informed my session, one of my elders who was teaching in a government college nearby said the form V students who go to that private school were the ones they threw out from their school.
About a week later the private school had an “Open Day” to showcase the school. Then the proprietor made this remark which I engraved it my heart. He said, “At MBHS we transform lead into gold.”
You see, each compound has a garbage can, but if the storehouse of your heart is evil, you will prefer to dump your garbage in your neighbour’s yard. A neighbour whose heart is a storehouse of good won’t complain. Rather she will use the garbage to garden vegetables and bring some to you. Each person can only give what the one has.
The sum of the matter is that “men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Be careful with what you say, because your words define you; and this all depends on what you have in the storehouse of your heart!
Prayer of the day and week: Holy Spirit continue to work on me to make the storehouse of my heart a constant storage of good. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
