“Called To Be A Blessing!”(Gen.12:1-3).
“The LORD said to Abram, ‘Leave your country, your people, and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all the peoples on earth will be blessed through you.'”
God does not call you without some prior preparation. There is a story about Abram that is not recorded in the Bible. Abram’s father was an idol worshipper with a large room full of various kinds of idols. One day, Abram entered the room and destroyed all the idols. His father was furious. Abram told his father, “I wanted the idols to save themselves if they were as powerful as you claim.” This means before his call, Abram was a God-fearer.
God called Abram at age seventy-five. Lesson: With God, it is never too late. God’s right time does not consider the age limit.
Africans have a tendency to be attached to father land. This explains why those who live out of their father land make every effort to build a house in their natal village. The call of Abram challenges the concept of attachment to one’s natal village. Abram had to cut all ties with his country, his people, and his father’s household.
Through Abram, God was about to do a new thing. That is why soon after the call, God changed his name from Abram to Abraham.
God does not call us for our personal gains. God calls us for his own purpose. Abram was a wealthy man before God called him.
In the sevenfold promise made to Abram, there is no mention of wealth or prosperity.
Abram will be made into a great nation; yet, at seventy-five, he was childless. He was to be blessed. His name was to be made great. He was to be a blessing. Those who bless him will be blessed by God, and those who curse him will be cursed by God.
My friend, I am convinced that some of the most beautiful flowers blossom and wither in the bush without any human nose scenting their sweet fragrance nor any human eye seeing their beautiful blossoming. You may be an Abram, or you may be that offspring of Abram that will constitute that great nation.
You may be an Abram through whom God will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you
Therefore,as you navigate this life, mind the way you treat people. The stranger you meet today may be your Abram through whom God can bless you or curse you. See everybody as an Abram. Bless them so that you too will be blessed.
God calls us to be a blessing. Let us be so!
Prayer of the day and week: LORD God, make me a never empty vessel of blessing to others. Amen!
Welcome back to a new working day and week! Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
