“Cheer Up; God Is Your Defense Counsel!”
Luke 15 opens with tax collectors and “sinners” gathering round Jesus to hear him, and Pharisees and teachers of the law muttering that Jesus welcomes sinners and eats with them.
Sinners who recognise and acknowledge their sins and repent are forgiven. Heaven rejoices over any repented soul.
The angry elder brother represents the Pharisees and the teachers of the law and any of us who claim we have always been in God’s presence and the Father has never given even a goat for us to kill and celebrate with our friends.
God tells us that it is important to celebrate for a repented sinner because “he was lost and is found”(15:25-32). Jesus expressed this better in the home of Zacchaeus, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost”(Lk.19:10).
To be a regular Christian -maybe from birth – yet nursing bitterness because backsliders have also been led to grace makes you also a sinner who needs repentance as well.
Jesus explained this better to the Pharisees, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains”(Jn.9:41).
God’s free and amazing grace is offered to everybody who makes a choice to come for it. There is available space at the salvation rendezvous for everybody. There is no reason for anybody to become jealous of any new arrivals!
Do not use the advantage of grace given you to deprive others of theirs! Nobody has any high seat or extra privileges than other people at “God’s Grace Rendezvous! Live and let others live!
My friend, God does not only welcomes a repented sinner; he is also a defense counsel for those who challenge your case! So rejoice!
Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus Christ that you found me when I was lost. Holy Spirit give me a humble spirit not to be jealoused of the blessings of others. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
