“Christ The Liberator And Impartial Judge!”(Ez.17:22-24).
“I will take a shoot from the very top of a cedar… On the mountain heights of Israel I will plant it; it will produce branches and bear fruit and become a splendid cedar. Birds of every kind will nest in it; they will find shelter in the shade of its branches. All the trees of the field will know that I the LORD bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.”
Here is a beautiful messianic promise of the coming messiah that was fulfilled in Jesus who became the Christ.
Contrary to the gross misinterpretation of Karl Marx to say that religion is an opium of the poor, this text is a promise of liberation and the fairness of God’s justice.
The branch referring to the messiah will produce branches, bear fruit and also become a splendid cedar. These refer to the all-inclusiveness of the messiah who will dispense grace to all who have been destined for salvation.
The tree (Jesus Christ) accepts birds of every kind (people from all over) that come to nest there. The shade of its branches provides shelter for all the birds that come there.
We note however that although the tree is very accommodating, it does so only to the birds that come to it. The more reason why one must seek the LORD while he is to be found.
It may be true that “every cloud has a silver lining,” but the injustices of humanbeings have made it that some are born with silver spoons in their mouth, and such ones through oppression and exploitation take away the silver lining of some clouds!
The Christ is also a Liberator and an impartial Judge who brings down the tall tree and make the low tree grow!
This is not going to happen through vigils and incessant prayers; it is going to happen when we put ourselves right with God. This will happen when the poor oppressed masses emancipate themselves from mental slavery and when the rich and powerful emancipate themselves from the ignorance which promotes the lie that wealth and power is the source of wellness.
Prayer of the day and week: Holy Spirit, raise in us the awareness of ignorance which breeds an inequitable society. Amen!
Welcome to a new working day and week! Have a blessed working day and week!
