“Continue In Christ!”
The wisdom of the sages notes that “the fly that had no-one to advice it followed the corpse into the grave;” and that “the river meandered because it flowed alone.” This is to say we all need counsel, advice and reminders from others so that we do not go astray.
In the midst of increasing agents of the antichrist, John saw the need to write about those who were trying to lead others astray.
A Christian in one of our city congregations told me, “Ba, we Christians have become so matured. If we were looking up to you people we wouldn’t give a dime to the church. But we have learned how to give, not minding what you guys do with the money…”
She was thinking only in terms of material things. John points to a more profound truth: “As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as the anointing is real, not counterfeit – just as it has taught you, remain in him.”
Yes my dear friend, each day we write not to teach you but to remind you that the anointing is already in you! If you had allowed it to lie fallow, please awaken it! Do not allow yourself to be tossed about by any wind of change that may sweep you off your feet! The antichrist agents are everywhere like lunatics, “they own the place!”
If you know that Christ is righteous, it would be easy to “know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.”
Yes, “continue in him, so that when he appears you may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming”(I Jn. 2:26-29).
Prayer: Lord keep the anointing in me aflame so that I will be confident and unashamed at your coming. Amen!
