“Cultivating A Christ-like Attitude!”(Phi.2:1-5).
There is a common saying that “when the food is not well prepared, orphans will eat their fill.” What is implied is that any orphan in the home is never served a fair share. But when the food is stale or poorly prepared, it will be dumped on him/her.
If we are encouraged by being united in Christ as individuals, if we have any comfort from his love, and if we have any fellowship with the Spirit, and if we have any tenderness and compassion, we should complement these “by being like minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.” Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.”
To be united in Christ is the basic reality of salvation. To be in Christ is to be saved. To be united in Christ is having an ultimate relationship with him, and it is from this relationship that all the benefits of salvation flow.
The comfort of Christ’s love has been fully demonstrated by God’s love in which he sacrificed his Son for the forgiveness of our sins and for our salvation.
The Holy Spirit in us produces in us the ability to live in fellowship.
Care and deep sympathy for others should be our Christian hallmarks.
The attitude of Christ that should be ours is that we should have a common disposition to work together and serve one another.
We should guard against selfish ambition because it destroys unity and disrupts the spirit of fellowship.
Working for our personal interest is good, but it should not be at the detriment of others. There should be equal concern about the welfare of others.
Our attitudes may not be a possible replica of the attitude of Chris, but we can be like him in his attitude of self-sacrificing humility and his love for others.
Dear friend, true fellowship in God’s possible best world is when we empty ourselves of self-love and put others first. Not because they are better than us or more deserving than us, but because we attract what we radiate.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, help us to be united in Christ so that we can be like-minded in the fellowship. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
