“Evidence From History!”(Mt.12:38-42).
“Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, ‘Teacher, we want to see a sign from you.’ He answered, ‘A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now something greater than Jonah is here. The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, and now something greater than Solomon is here.'”
If there is one thing that turns me off when I watch a worship service of some tele-evangelists, it is where miracles are being performed. Firstly, there is often nothing seemingly miraculous for what is projected as miraculous. Secondly, some of the supposed miracles and the testimony time given to praise the Man of God for such miracles chops considerable worship time. The question therefore: Is the worship service equivalent to a theatre where the audience come to be entertained by a few as they watch the few demonstrating inconsistencies that surely annoy the Lord?
By the way, if we spend less time in portraying the miraculous to authenticate our claims, and more time studying the scriptures we will discover that the Lord Jesus Christ says signs are demanded by “a wicked and adulterous generation.”
It is simple: The gospel calls us to repentance. It is either you take it or leave it!
Oh yes! The resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ on the third day is enough sign – if not more than any sign that has been revealed through history.
By citing Jonah and the Queen of Sheba, the Lord Jesus Christ is hereby drumming into miracle-seeking doubters that history has enough signs to justify any claims that no degree of miraculous signs can equate.
My dear friend, this text is simply reminding us that we should take the Lord Jesus Christ at his words and repent!
To go by Keith Christopher: “My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device or creed;
I trust the ever living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.

I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.

Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He’ll never cast me out.

My heart is leaning on the Word,
The living Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior’s Name,
Salvation through His blood.

My great Physician heals the sick,
The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
For me His life He gave.”

Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, condition my heart to accept the grace of God without seeking authentication through signs and wonders. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
