“Face Your Destiny!”(Lk.18:31-34).
“Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, ‘We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.’ The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.“
The climax is building up as the Lenten season draws towards Passion Week. From now on, the focus is on discourse that points to the cross, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
My people say that your finger can only pierce your eye by error. This is to say, One does not intentionally carry self into a known danger, for that will be a suicide mission.
However, what will be will be! And if what will be will be, it must be according to what was willed and prophesied that it will be.
In life, we have to have a closer walk with God so that the Spirit can help us understand our destinies and to move towards its realisation – no matter the painful and dangerous way ahead.
Jesus told his closest aides that it was time to go to Jerusalem where his kinsmen will hand him over to Gentiles to be mocked, insulted, spat upon, flogged, and killed. But that did not deter him from going to Jerusalem because those things that were to happen to him were to fulfil what had been written about him by the prophets. Besides, what was to happen to him was not as tragic as meets the eye. It was to be a story with a happy ending because “on the third day he will rise again.” Without painfulness, we cannot fully appreciate the relief of painlessness.
Sadly enough, the Twelve missed the fine points of Jesus’ words. They “did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.”
Dear friend, the Lord Jesus was ready to accept all that was to befall him because of you and I. May the Holy Spirit reveal the hidden meaning behind this mystery so that we can too embrace the risen Christ with the totality of our being.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit, help me discern my destiny and the courage to face it with all its vicissitudes. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
