“God Will Send His Angel To Rescue You!”
After he had arrested and killed James, Herod proceeded to arrest Peter. He intended to bring him to trial after the Feast of Unleavened bread. But the night before the trial an angel miraculously rescued Peter.
What I find interesting here is that the angel did not just whisk Peter out of prison through a miracle. The angel asked Peter to wake up and get dressed. He then asked Peter to follow him out of the prison. At first Peter thought he was merely seeing a vision. “When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him.”
At this point Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s cluthes and from everything the Jewish people were anticipating.” It was the Jews – Peter’s kinsmen – who were pleased that Herod had killed James, that is why Herod went ahead to arrest Peter. If the angel had not saved Peter he would have been executed after the trial.
One important element to note here is the power of intercession! The text says, “So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him”(Acts 12: 1-11).
How earnestly have we as church been praying for the brethren who are in prison? By the way how can our prayers be genuine when we are the ones who have put some of them in prison? The very people who order the arrests and imprisonment of others are the ones occupying the front pews of the churches! What an aberration!
Are you amongst the Jews who were pleased with Herod’s action or you are among the church praying earnestly to God for those in prison?
The church was not just praying; the church was praying “earnestly!” The second thing to note is that the miracle needed the cooperation of Peter.
Lastly when God works a miracle in your life you should affirm it like Peter did! “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me…!”
May we as a church pray earnestly for those who have been falsely arrested and locked up so that God through Jesus Christ will send his angels to rescue the innocent! That situation in which you are, thinking that all is lost, I tell you, “Don’t despair! An angel of the Lord is about to intervene for you!
Prayer: Thank you Lord for I see your miraculous hand working in my life in the name of Jesus. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
