“God’s Unfailing Promise!”(Jer.31:10-14).
This first Sunday of 2025 of the Gregorian calendar let me repeat this story: A Bristish lad wrote on the wall of a house, “God punish the queen” He was arrested and arraigned before a Judge. He was asked why he had the mind to write such a thing about the queen? The boy replied, “The sentence was not yet completed. When completed, the sentence would have read,“God punish the queen’s enemies.”
It is common to draw hasty conclusions on a statement that has neither a fullstop nor a question mark nor an exclamation sign.
My dear friend, the story of the incarnation is a story that reminds us that God is not yet done with you. Your life is still a sentence that has not yet been completed. God is still writing the story; don’t jump to faulty conclusions yet!
The incarnation is the story of restoration, reconciliation, and renewal. It is a story revealing the deep love of God for the people he made in his own image.
The coming of Jesus into the world is God saying, “For too long I have allowed my anger to cause you pain, sorrow, uncertainties and disillusionment. I have heard your cry and seen your tears. I have decided to once again make my face shine on you and be gracious to you.”
To any of his strayed sheep, the Lord assures through the prophet: I will gather the flock I scattered and watch over them like a shepherd. I will ransom “and redeem them from the hand of those stronger than they.” There will be rejoicing and agriculture will thrive with bountiful yields. “The maidens will dance and be glad…I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow. I will satisfy the priests with abundance, and my people will be filled with my bounty.”
In Christ, the future is secure, and there is fulfilling hope! Hallelujah for Immanuel! God’s promises never fail. Through his Son, he is still writing the story of our physical welfare and future salvation.
Sunday prayer: Holy Spirit, continue to guide our feet and enable us to stand on the promises of God. Amen!
Have a blessed Sunday! Peace be with you!
