Hidden From The Wise, But Revealed To Children!”(Lk.10:21-24).
The other day we read about the presence of the Trinity during the baptism of Jesus. Today again, Luke shows us how the three are always in synergy. The seventy-two whom Jesus sent on an evangelistic mission “returned with joy and said, ‘Lord, even the demons submitted to us in your name.’…”(Lk.10:1ff).
Then “Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure. All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
Jesus went further to tell them, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”
We note here the presence of the Spirit inspiring joy in Jesus who turns to the Father in praise. Our spiritual connection with the divine needs the interaction of the Three Persons in One God.
Each new day is a fresh opportunity for new adventures, new discoveries and for reaching higher dimensions. As much as we are confident that better days lie ahead, we nevertheless know that there are somethings we would have done better if we had foreknowledge of certain issues.
Again, our generation are blessed to know what our forebears were ignorant about. Even so, in their time they were aware that times and seasons change. And that with such changes life is given new perspectives. That explains why my people long ago coined the name, “Nyongpua” – a new world.
Besides, there are a lot of things which the wise of this world cannot discern, but which is common knowledge to children. We believers as children now know Christ and the saving work of God’s amazing grace through the blood of his Son.
Jesus calls the Father “Lord of heaven and earth.” This is a title emphasisng the sovereignty of God. It is found only three times, though implied several times. God as Lord of heaven and earth connotes both his immanence and transcendence. God is omnipresent as well as he is omnipotent and omniscient.
The children’s hymn says, “God is always near me, hearing what I say. Knowing all my thoughts and deeds…” As children we behave nicely when our parents are around. We try our best to do what they feel good about. As parents we want to be seen as good parents who trained their children in the way they should go, and we expect that they should not depart from it.
Such is the filial relationship that should bond us together with our God – especially when we know that he is always near us.
Prayer: Holy Spirit prompt us daily with the discernment that has been hidden from the wise. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
