“…I Am With You…!”

“…I Am With You…!”(Jer.15:10&15-21).
The other time, we said the prophet Jeremiah may not be a prototype of Jesus, but they have many things in common. In today’s text, Jeremiah made a confession to God that disguises a complaint. The prophet feels abandoned by God in the same way that Jesus asked on the cross, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”(Mk.15:34).
We all feel such a sense of abandonment by the very person we know can never fail us. However, our feelings of abandonment are hallucinatory. It is like in the story of “The Footprints” where we think that the only pair of footprints that we see are ours. But when we ask, “LORD, where were you when I saw only a pair of footprints?” The LORD answers, “My child, that was when you couldn’t walk, and I carried you on my back.”
When Jeremiah complained through a confession, the LORD answered:
“If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them. I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you, I will save you from the hands of the wicked and deliver you from the grasp of the cruel.”
This message of salvation is for us, too. God has saved us through the suffering, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
My friend, whether you are a messenger of the gospel or a recipient of the gospel, this message of salvation is for you too: “If you repent, I will restore you…I am with you to rescue and save you, I will save you from the hands of the wicked and deliver you from the grasp of the cruel.”
Yes, Immanuel has done it for us. Turn to God through his Son in obedience and be saved from your enemies and the bondage of sin.
