“It Is Well, God Will Wipe Away Your Tears!”
A popular hymn goes, “We have another home in view… Our Saviour is gone to prepare us a place, we have another home in view…” (“Our Saviour” in the song is interchangeable with “Our mother, father, sister, brother, friend etc, as the case may be).
The question is, “Who is ready to go and prepare a place for others when in this life we want to have it all to ourselves? Better still, who wants to go to that other home that we have in view? At a wake service last evening, the preacher asked the worshippers to each turn and ask the neighbour, “Are you ready?” At that same service some of us who treated the deceased poorly in his last days were surely dieing inwardly with shame because his assets spoke for itself!
The joke is made of those who pray by bowing on the floor and lifting their head up from time to time that the leader was asked after the funeral of a member, “How can we determine who is next to die?” His response: “When we bow our heads in prayer, the first person to raise his head is the next to die.” The prayer session took days because nobody was ready to raise the head first.
During his exile in the island of Patmos, St John the apocalypse was opportuned through a vision to see that other home which we have in view. He saw “the great multitude that no-one could count from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb…” We can say that pre-Babel was reconciled since “they cried out in a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God…'”
To the people “Who have come out of the great tribulation” and “Have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb,” is the promise of “Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst…”
Yes, “Never again” because “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes”(Rev.7:9-17). But are you ready?
Prayer: Holy Spirit wash my robe in the blood of the Lamb so that I shall stand before the throne of God. Amen!
Have blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
