“Know God’s Mystery And Do Not Be Conceited!”(Rom. 11:25-32).
In our today’s understanding the word mystery ⁸⁹means “something that is difficult or impossible to understand or explain.”
In New Testament times the Greek word ‘mysterion’ was used in mystery religions to mean something that was revealed only to those who have been initiated. Paul uses it quite often referring to something that was formerly obscure or hidden but which has now been revealed by God for all to know and understand.
Even when Paul tries to clear our ignorance, we are quite often still naive to understand, thus we continue to be conceited.
Maybe it is that the mystery contains some truth that we are uncomfortable with. Scriptures say, as far as the gospel is concerned, the Jews are enemies on your account; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs, for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable…”
Take the example of a class of students where some students always top the class. Then suddenly they start cutting classes, ignoring lessons etc. Their grades fall and the less intelligent ones who were at the bottom begin to top the class.
When those clever students become serious again they will regain their top positions. Even when they tailed the class, the teachers still acknowledged them as the brightest and told them that they could do better.
While we work for our salvation, we should not consider ourselves to be too saintly and begin to categorically state that some have been condemned to hell fire. “…God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.”
What this means is that God has not rejected the disobedient and the backsliden; he will show mercy on them in the same way he has shown us so that grace should remain grace.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit open the eyes of my heart to see that I am not skilled to understand fully the things of God; except knowing Christ my Savior. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
