“Lord Give Me Heavenly Wisdom!”
Whatever attitude we display in our application of wisdom is a function of the source of that wisdom. If you are seen to be wise but you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your heart, then your wisdom is not divine; it is earthly, unscriptural and of the devil.
Ambition has come under serious attack from generations past. Those who killed Julius Caesar did so on the grounds that he was ambitious. But as Mark Anthony argued, “ambition should be made of sterner stuff…”
In itself ambition is positive; if we understand ambition as “a strong desire to do or achieve something.” Without ambition human progress would be stagnated. What is abhored because it is unethical is “selfish ambition;” which is a desire to put one’s self forward; self-seeking pursuit of something by unfair means.
Selfish ambition is condemned by the Bible. The Very Reverend Dr. Nyansako-ni-Nku of blessed memory is fondly quoted for a message he captioned, “Do you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not!” The argument is not against seeking great things; it is against seeking great things for yourself. It is not against ambition but against selfish ambition!
That is in the same way that Mark Anthony said Caesar brought many captives back to Rome and their ransoms helped to fill the general coffers. That wasn’t selfish ambition.
Those with selfish ambitions are envious people. They cannot claim that their wisdom is divine. Such wisdom is earthly, unscriptural, and of the devil. And “wherever you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. Just look around you; what do you see!
If we do not fear God we cannot acquire divine wisdom. Divine wisdom shows itself through a good life and by good deeds done in humility.
Divine wisdom “is first of all pure; then peace-loving, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”
By our fruits the source of our wisdom is known because our harvest is a function of the source of our seeds.
Therefore my friend, seek only the wisdom from heaven which is pure, peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere! When you find it put it into action!
Remember: “Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness”(Jm.3:13-18).
Prayer: Holy Spirit lead me on the path of heavenly wisdom that enables me to positively impact others in word and deed. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
