“Lord Give Me Just Enough…!”
Somebody has given this acronym to money:
M- many shall be in trouble for my sake.
O- on me everybody shall depend.
N- none shall be lacking where I’m present.
E- engage me in whatever you want and you will succeed.
Y- yet I am the root of all evil!
Money may not necessarily be the root of all evil, but it has been the cause of bloodshed, heartaches, tears and sorrow.
Paul warns us about the pitfalls of the love of money. “People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.”
Yes, the love of money leads to embezzlement, misappropriation, outright thievery, fraud, capital flights, cheating, greed and the spirit of hoarding. Worst of all in the case of Africa are esoteric fraternities like “Famla”, “Nyongo”, “Kupe” and other devilish societies where people sacrifice other humanbeings so that they can become rich.
If money is evil, then it is a necessary evil. Even Jesus had a treasurer because no human institution or organisation can function without money.
Money is good, but “the love of money is a root for all kinds of evil…”. We are reminded of basic human needs of food, clothing and shelter. Once we have these, we should ensure that these are made available to others as well. As such we would be able to curb ostentatious and opulent lifestyes.
As believers we are reminded, “…godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it…”
The love of money can never be a bedfellow with the things of the kingdom. So child of God, “flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness”(I Tim.6:6-11).
My friend, it is not about how much you acquire, but how many faces put on a smile because of your largesse.
Weekend prayer: Lord I pray for what gives me contentment and that I should always share with others. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
