“Lord Jesus Christ, Pray For Me That My Faith May Not Fail!”
Peter had confidently told Jesus, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.” Jesus who knew the fickleness of the human heart answered Peter, “I tell you, Peter, before the cock crows today, you will deny three times that you know me”(Lk. 22:33-34).
As the night wore on, Peter, even though he had dared to follow Jesus, disowned him three times. Just as he was denying Jesus for the third time, the cock crowed. “The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord… And he went outside and wept bitterly”(54-71).
Our willingness to stand by Christ cannot be by our personal resolve and strength. That is exactly what Peter thought he could do.
Jesus had made a direct address to Peter, “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers”(22:31-32). Simon had thought he was strong enough on his own, reason why he confidently stated that he could stand his ground.
Yes friend, there are always such tempting moments when, despite our confidence to follow Jesus, Satan sifts us and our faith still fails!
When it happens, we should weep bitterly for being too confident of ourselves when we would have depended on the Lord for inner strength!
Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, when Satan sifts me as corn flour, please pray for me so that my faith may not fail. Amen!
Have a blessed day! Peace be with you!
