“Love Never Fails!”(I Cor.13:1-8a).8
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
The passage above is one of the most quoted concerning love. Going through the passage this morning fresh inspiration compelled me to ask the question whether I have ever really loved in the sense of being or not being and doing or not doing what the passage prescribes for us to be and do if we love.
Perhaps the best we can do to love or to know that we are loving is to ask these questions and answer honestly. Am I patient? Am I kind? Do I envy? Do I boast? Am I proud? Do I dishonor others? Am I self-seeking? Am I easily angered? Do I keep a record of wrongs? Do I delight in evil? Do I rejoice in the truth? Do I always protect others, always trust them, always hoping and be persevering?
Whatever may be your answers to these questions, you may want to know further whether the way you see yourself is the same way others see you? Sadly though, we live in pretentiousness and very few can speak truth to your face. What is said in your presence is often the opposite of what is said in your absence.
Perhaps the best way we can show true love and help others to improve on their love relationships is to be honest and frank with others; telling them who and what they are as we know them. But that also means we are ready to take what is bluntly put in good faith to us about us.
Remember, all else may fail, but “Love never fails!” Love never fails because love is eternal; emanating from a loving God whose love never fails!
Our best in our service and worship to the LORD and our service to humanity are nothing if we do not show and do love. So let true love lead in the way in which it was demonstrated on Calvary. When we sing, “Jesus never fails…,” we are in effect singing that the love of God in Christ Jesus never fails us.
Weekend prayer: Holy Spirit help me to weed out all that is in me that is a barrier to true love. Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
