“…Love Truth And Peace!”
A father brought home a robot lie detector. He called the son and asked him about his school performance and the boy lied. The robot hit the child on the head.
The father was dissappointed with his son. Like most fathers, he wanted to play the heroe-father. He told his son that in his school days he was always top of his class and the robot gave him a heavy knock on the head. He told the robot that his work was to detect the lies of his son and not his own lies.
This is the problem with all of us. Nobody wants to see the falsehood or deception in self.
One can imagine the outcome if we had such lie detectors planted in our meetings, offices, pulpits and conferences! Perhaps with such detectors falsehood may be reduced to a barest minimum.
Today as we enter day three of Lent, despite our past misdeeds, the Lord Almighty says, “…now I have determined to do good again to…” Cameroon. “Do not be afraid.”
But he gives a condition! He says “these are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts; do not plot evil against your neighbour, and do not love to swear falsely. I hate all this…Therefore love truth and peace”(Zec. 8:14-19).
We all know that our justice system stands in need of salvation! We embrace our neighbours with daggers to stab them from behind! We all crave for peace without commensurate love for truth!
We pray that the prayers of Lent should serve as lie detectors to prick our deadend consciences!
Prayer: Holy Spirit enable me to look inward and purge myself of the sins of falsehood, unjust rulings on others, plot of evil against others. Strengthen my resolve to love truth and peace! Amen!
Have a blessed weekend! Peace be with you!
