“Ministering To The Harrassed And Helpless Flock!”[Mt.9:15-10:7].
“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.” This is the summary of Jesus’ ministry.
While he was at it, “when he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” So saying, he called out the twelve, sent them out, having given them authority to drive out evil spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. As they went along they were to preach this message: “The Kingdom of heaven is near.”
Ministry today is most times a far cry from the commission of Jesus. While we continue with the apostolic mission in the power of the Holy Spirit, we must keep in mind that it was compassion that filled Jesus as he saw the harrassed and helpless crowd. It was compassion that caused him to send out the twelve apostles.
If we must continue in the apostolic commission, we must have compassion for the harrassed and helpless crowd. The harrassed and helpless crowd are all over the place. They need the message of the kingdom and also be ministered to at their points of great need.
Those who heed the call of the gospel should receive solace and not feel that they are rather being further harrassed at the very places where they hope to find succor.
Prayer of the day and week: Lord Jesus Christ give us compassionate hearts and equip us through the Spirit to attend to the needs of the harrassed and helpless flocks. Amen!
Have a blessed day and week! Peace be with you!
